The Hubs went grocery shopping yesterday while I was at work! Wheeeeee!! I am so excited! Honestly I’ve missed my Green Monsters more than you can imagine. He just got some light groceries; stuff for my smoothies (spinach, bananas), greek yogurt, berries, hummus, tzatziki, and some stuff for him. We are leaving for Mexico early Saturday morning, so we couldn’t get too much stuff.
Anyway this morning all I could think about was a smoothie. I was totally stoked to use something out of my swag bag. It’s actually bittersweet though; I know eventually I will have used everything out of the bag and then it’s officially over. haha! I almost want to preserve the bag and never touch it, but that’s totally not the point, right? I decided to use one of the Vega packets that I received.
This packet smelled so good when I opened it. It didn’t have the “dog food” smell that a lot of packets have to them. This smelled like berries. Since I made a relatively small (for me) smoothie this morning; it was only about 10 oz; I should have probably only used 1/2 a pack. However, I dumped the whole thing in with the rest of the mix and created my Monday Monster.
My mix today included:
- 2 cups of spinach
- 1 cup of vanilla soy milk
- 1/2 of a fresh banana
- 1 Vega Packet
- 1 tsp of Chia Seeds
- 1 tsp of wheat germ
Today was the first day that I actually measured out my ingrediants. Typically I just throw things into the blender and call it a day, and apparently I’m not the best estimator in the world. When I saw the size of the shaker, I thought that my normal smoothie would be larger than that, so I opted to actually measure things out. I would guess that I normally make about 2x this amount, although I think it’s actually only spinach. I really do think I only use about 1 to 1 1/2 cups of soy milk. I definitely do not double that, just based on the rate at which I use up my soy milk. Also I use a whole frozen banana normally, but I was worried about the volume that would create in this smoothie. I ate the other half. 🙂
Also, the shaker? THE BEST. I have been seeing these around the blogosphere a lot lately, and I’m really happy that I have my own now. It’s the perfect size, and I love the width of the spout as well as the fact that the white top portion stays open. My nalgene, for example, has a flimsy connector, so I have to hold it down while I’m drinking otherwise it will hit me in the face. The only thing I would say if I had to pick something to change about the shaker is that I would make it a little bit bigger.
I’m off to work now, and then the gym after. I’ll post my lunch at, err, lunchtime if my camera doesn’t die on me. My battery light is flashing! Oh NO!
Like mamma always said, you can never have too much wheat germ.
I am so excited to try my own Vega package now!!!!
